How do I get to the wedding and reception? September 4, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — kelly @ 9:54 pm

Directions to the wedding/reception at Mt. Tabor Park:

Since there is only a small parking lot near the top of the hill (wedding location), we are recommending that you arrive at least 30 minutes early (at 12:30) and park at the reception spot (picnic area b). If you don’t want to walk all the way up the hill, we will have a shuttle to the upper parking lot near the wedding location.

From the upper parking lot you will have to walk a short distance uphill (101 stairs to be exact) so please wear shoes you can walk in. There will be one vehicle going all the way to the summit for people who need assistance. Also, there is a restroom at the reception area but not at the wedding location so plan ahead.

(Note for people familiar with Mt. Tabor: the reception site is “picnic area b” which is on the east side of the park facing Mt. Hood. It is not the one near the big playground.)

Bonus prizes will be awarded to all who ride bikes to the wedding! We have biked to the top of Mt. Tabor many times and it is really much easier than it looks. Come on, we dare you. Get bicycle directions from your location.

What should I wear? September 3, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — kelly @ 7:53 pm

Lots of people are asking so we thought we’d attempt to answer. The wedding and reception are both casual, outdoor events at a public park in Portland. The ceremony will take place at the top of the hill. Guests will need to be able to walk up a hill; so please wear shoes you can walk in. There will be a vehicle to bring those who need assistance (no, this does not include those who choose to wear stiletto heels!). The weather could be cool or fairly warm–so check the weather before you come and bring a sweater or jacket.

What to do in Portland

Filed under: Uncategorized — kelly @ 7:45 pm

Wondering what to do in Portland?

Here are a few options to consider:

Powell’s City of Books. Powell’s is the world’s largest independent bookstore, covering a whole city block. If you even remotely like books, you have to stop at Powell’s. (The downtown location on NW 10th and W Burnside is the biggie.)

Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls. A Portland-area classic. For spectacular hiking, try any of the trails starting at other waterfalls along the old highway.

Swifts at Chapman School. Every evening in September, tens of thousands of birds descend into an elementary school chimney in NW Portland. Bring a picnic and enjoy the show.

Say hello to the newborn baby elephant at the Oregon Zoo.

Get cultured at the Portland Time Based Art Festival Sept 4-14.

We are registered at Kitchen Kaboodle, a wonderful local kitchen store, and also at Target. But honestly, we don’t need that much more stuff. So another option in lieu of a gift is to donate to one of the following organizations in our names:

If you do make a donation, please be sure to let us know so that we can thank you!

Accommodations July 15, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — kelly @ 9:19 pm

Coming from out of town? We are recommending these two hotels for our wedding guests.

Marriott Downtown Waterfront We have reserved a block of rooms on September 12 and 13 for the “Campbell/Amundson wedding” at their discount rate of $159. To get the lower rate, you must reserve by August 18th.

Jupiter Hotel This is where the cool kids will want to stay for a unique Portland experience. We do not have enough people to reserve a block of rooms at this small hotel, but their regular rates are $129. We encourage you to book your room soon before they are full. We plan to meet at their hotel bar, the Doug Fir, for the wedding after-party, so even if you don’t stay here you should check it out. Be warned that this is a busy night spot and the rooms can be loud. You can rent bicycles at the Jupiter and there will be bonus prizes for any guests who ride bikes to the wedding!

There are plenty of other hotels in the Portland area in a variety of price ranges. Two other favorites:

The Ace Hotel Uber-hipster downtown accommodations including a turntable and records in your room. Rooms with shared bath start at $95, private baths for $140+

Kennedy School Stay in a converted elementary school. It is a bit out of the way but fun. Rates start at $99-$130.

Let us know if you have any questions about where to stay!
